The famous
Class of '71 "ROCK", notorious for it's years of preservation
under the most severe of circumstances, once or twice recovered from the
fumes and desecration of underclassmen's scrawling, this very same rock photographed
and seen here on this page, has got to be replanted somewhere on the
grounds of the high school property (it was shamefully uprooted
for new construction of the Middle School Addition) .
It is the
hope of most all we have talked with that it can be preserved in a place
of recognition and rededicated to the school during our 30th class
reunion. Arrangements have been made to locate the rock in a
place of prominence and to secure to it's embodiment a dedication for the
high school and the new middle school addition.
We need
you support and help. There is a certain, yet unknown cost, to
securing a plaque, preparing the rock foundation and reconditioning the
rock itself for restoration to it's original status. We are asking
for contributions to this cause in any amount or substance. Please
mark any contributions you might send with your registration for the
purpose of the rocks restoration as "Save the Rock".
We will
need volunteers for preparation of the rock before this August as
well. Anyone in the area or coming home may call one of the
reunion staff named on your letter for instructions on what may need to
be done.
The school
board has agreed to have the rock sandblasted, reset in concrete and an
inscription to be placed upon the face of the rock of our choice.
We have made some suggestions for the inscriptions and work is under
way. Our hope is that we can rededicate this rock during our
reunion. Thanks for your support and ideas.
